We have spoken about being involved in mission over the last few weeks. But most of us are usually at a bit of a loss how to go about mission. That is because we usually think of it as an over there thing. Something that someone on the mission field does but we don’t. We do church, or we do bible study or we do youth group but we don’t perceive that we do mission. Well we know we do but it doesn’t sink into our psyche.
Archive for the Sermons CategoryHave you ever thought what a mum’s mission is? Well if mum’s wrote a purpose statement maybe it would sound like this” My purpose is to provide for my kids an environment so they can reach their potential, be totally well and be totally safe. This is a great passage. A tad controversial in places but we’ll deal with that as we go. I love this first bit. COL 3:15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Today we begin to look at a section of Colossians that is practical and ethical in its emphasis, Paul encourages his readers, and that means us, to give outward expression of what we believe in daily living to the experience of knowing Jesus. The Christian life is a life “hidden with Christ in God,” but it is still a life lived out on earth. Christians must give careful attention not only to their inward experience with God but also to their outward relations with their fellow human beings. (more…) COL 2:6 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, 7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. It seems best to take these two verses as a kind of summary appeal made in light of the preceding discussion–an appeal for the readers to remain true to Christ as Lord. |
